Pointwise optimality of Bayesian wavelet estimators
We consider pointwise mean squared errors of several known Bayesian wavelet estimators, namely, posterior mean, posterior median and Bayes Factor, where the prior imposed on wavelet coefficients is a mixture of an atom of probability zero and a Gaussian density. We show that for the properly chosen hyperparameters of the prior, all the three estimators are (up to a log-factor) asymptotically mi...
متن کاملPointwise smoothness of space-filling functions
We study irregularity properties of generic Peano functions; we apply these results to the determination of the pointwise smoothness of a Peano function introduced by Lebesgue and of some related functions, showing that they are either monohölder or multifractal functions. We test on these examples several numerical variants of the multifractal formalism, and we show how a change of topology on...
متن کاملPointwise Convergence of a Class of Non-orthogonal Wavelet Expansions
Non-orthogonal wavelet expansions associated with a class of mother wavelets is considered. This class of wavelets comprises mother wavelets that are not necessarily integrable over the whole real line, such as Shannon’s wavelet. The pointwise convergence of these wavelet expansions is investigated. It is shown that, unlike other wavelet expansions, the ones under consideration do not necessari...
متن کاملCharacterization of Pointwise H Older Regularity
We study diierent characterizations of the pointwise HH older spaces C s (x 0), including rate of approximation by smooth functions and iterated differences. As an application of our results we study the class of functions that are HH older exponents, and prove that the HH older exponent of a continuous function is the limit inferior of a sequence of continuous functions, thereby improving a th...
متن کاملMultiplier Ideals of Monomial Space Curves
This paper presents a formula for the multiplier ideals of a monomial space curve. The formula is obtained from a careful choice of log resolution. We construct a toric blowup of affine space in such a way that a log resolution of the monomial curve may be constructed from this toric variety in a well controlled manner. The construction exploits a theorem of González Pérez and Teissier (2002).
